I found having that much (unrelated) responsibility competing for my attention, and working such an inconsistent schedule, was more than I could manage. This is the first week of the rest of my life, right? With my lay-off and the holiday weekend behind me, I’m focusing on what’s next.

Have you seen that I’m back on Facebook? After taking a stand at the end of last year and completely deleting my account followed by a three month hiatus, I rejoined on March 31. I simply felt, in light of the lockdown and pending sense of doom at that time, a bit disconnected. I hadn’t, as I had hoped, found an alternative to Facebook.

My first day with CARA

The last 6 years I have spent essentially re-grouping. This month in 2014 I was diagnosed with cancer. In June that year, a month after surgery, I lost my job and as my life spiraled further out of control that summer and fall, culminating with my husband’s death in October, I vowed to create a new and better life for me and my daughter. It took me a little longer than I thought it would.

New Jersey continues to be a piece of my puzzle

Last week I was back in New Jersey. It marked my first time back in a little over a year. I know that January is perhaps not the best time to leave Chicago for New Jersey (the escape to someplace warm is coming later this week), but I have an annual check-in at Memorial Sloan Kettering that I use as an excuse to spend time re-connecting with friends…and the landscape.
