There have been a couple running milestones I missed commemorating here because I haven’t been as prolific this year as I’ve been in the past. The first was my 25th Runiversary. That is, the 25th Anniversary of the day I started running which passed unceremoniously on March 4th. The second is Global Running Day which happens each year on the 1st Wednesday in June. Six tips for running alone

I did something this morning that I’ve done a lot over the past 22+ years. I ran – alone.

When I first started running, it never occurred to me to run with others. I didn’t belong to a running club of any kind and I had no concept of pacing. I was of course aware of safety, and to achieve that I didn’t run late at night or any place that I deemed to be too desolate or a “sketchy” neighborhood. Read more

In Celebration of Global Running Day -Run Like a Dog!

Today is Global Running Day. If you haven’t gotten a run in yet, put your trainers on and get out there! If you can, find a friend. Today running with others is a great way to celebrate our global community! Tonight I will be coaching my running club’s summer speed session; first of the season! This morning I ran with my dog.

Running with my dog – a dog, any dog – was a vision I had since I started looking at colleges over 35 years ago. It was part of  how I pictured my future self— never mind that I never had a dog and hated running. That my friends is a testament to how visualization works. Imagine your best self; create an imagine of the ideal life to make it happen.
