I’m going to ignore for the moment the snow outside and reflect on the fact that the official start to spring is just around the corner – 2 weeks! This is a good time to commit to something new! This week, twenty-two years ago, I started running.
Because it’s almost spring, I am again preparing to come out of hibernation in a big way. I start coaching my beginner 5k groups in the next week and the week after that my volunteer role coaching Let Me Run. I’ve heard people say that they don’t have time to train for a marathon. I have found that training for a marathon actually seems to give me more time. It might sound counterintuitive, but during marathon training, I find that I have way more energy and that I am more productive than at other times.
I am currently training for my 8th marathon and found this to be true each and every time! Back in September I wrote about how I would be counting down to my daughter’s high school graduation, preparing for a big move, and building my business – and that this was also the time I chose to run another marathon. The first week of the year signified the beginning of official marathon training for me. I am registered for the New Jersey Marathon on April 29….week 17 of 2018. I started the year running. Literally. My boyfriend and I ran the New York Road Runner’s Midnight Run in Central Park which goes off at the stroke of midnight. It’s was 10 degrees (#yesthatsfahrenheit) but it was a spectacular experience! Complete with fireworks and (frozen) sparkling cider at the fluid stations, I couldn’t think of a better way to start the year. It’s a race that was on my “bucket list” for a long time and I am so glad I finally decided to do it (and even better – that I had someone special to do it with). Read more
