I’m feeling a little sad right now and if I told you why you’d laugh.
When I was a kid my Uncle Joe worked for NBC in New York where they filmed many shows from Saturday Night Live, to talk shows and sitcoms to soap operas. He gave us a tour of the studios at Rockefeller Center once when I was about 12 and I remember a particularly funny story he told. Read more
While I was eating breakfast this morning my cat (actually my daughter’s cat, but I am its current caretaker), jumped up on the table and started to dig at the plant on the adjacent windowsill. I scolded him and told him to get off. He stopped momentarily. Gave me a look that said, “WTF” and went back to his digging. That, I thought to myself, is the difference between cats and dogs. My feelings about Valentine’s Day have fluctuated over the years. When I was a kid, it was great! It meant being greeted in the morning with chocolates from my Dad and then receiving little Valentine’s from all my classmates. I went to a small Catholic school and all the kids gave everyone in the class a little card. All was good. No bad feelings created by anyone feeling left-out. Read more
Although my daughter went “home” to New Jersey for the better part of the Thanksgiving break, we did get to spend some time together before and after her trip. And you know what? I’m starting to understand why empty-nesting parents miss their kids. Or rather “young adults” and that’s the difference. Read more
